Friday night, August 28, 2015, the Heritage Mountaineers took on the Anderson County Mavericks in Anderson County. The Mountaineers came to Anderson County expecting a different outcome. Heritage began strong with a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. But the Mavericks quickly answered back with fourteen points of their own in the second quarter. Anderson County jumped on the Mountaineers taking the lead with a score on a run play with 8:44 left in first half making the score 20-14. With 1:44 left in the first half, Anderson county added to their lead with another run up the middle making the score 26-14 which would also be the halftime score. The second half continued the scoring spree from the Mavericks as they picked up a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half with 9:03 left in the 3rd quarter making the score 33-14. Cameron Carter (11) and Dustin Richardson (4) both saw action in the 3rd quarter and helped guide Heritage in some promising drives, two of which ending in touchdowns for the Mountaineers. Both touchdown passes were to Cameron Allison (7) who was another bright spot in an otherwise disappointing night. Zach Amburn (3) had multiple large gains in the first half for the Mountaineers to put them up 14-0. Amburn led the way for Heritage finishing the game with 105 yards rushing. The Mountaineers fought hard, not expecting the Mavericks to come out with a 53-29 win. So far the Mavericks are 1-1 and the Mountaineers 0-2. Heritage must regroup quickly for their first region game of the year as they take on South Doyle this Friday Night. Come next out to see your Heritage Mountaineers take on South Doyle at home.
